چکیده

Aim It is important to understand the factors affecting community stability because ecosystem function increasingly at risk from biodiversity loss. Here, we evaluate how a key factor, position of local environmental conditions within thermal range species, influences butterfly communities continental scale. Location Spain, UK and Finland. Time period 1999–2017. Major taxa studied Butterflies. Methods We tested following hypotheses about species responses temperature anomalies aggregate influence stability: Hypothesis 1, have contrasting opposing edges their range; hypothesis 2, with central positions higher stability; impacts on are driven by 3, population asynchrony, or 4, additive stability. Data were analysed 876 sites for 157 species. Results found some support there interactions between response such that different could provide weak compensatory dynamics. However, nonlinear, suggesting strong declines extreme anomalies, particularly hot edge. 2 was supported in part, increased declined edges, after accounting richness abundance. Thermal weakly correlated asynchrony (hypothesis 3) 4), although abundance had larger impacts. Main conclusions Future heat events will be likely impact negatively across range, but might impactful populations hottest end range. influenced edge stable. prediction challenging nonlinear temperature, small producing dynamics, large synchronizing

Functional Redundancy Instead of Species Redundancy Determines Community Stability in a Typical Steppe of Inner Mongolia.

BACKGROUND The redundancy hypothesis predicts that the species redundancy in a plant community enhances community stability. However, numerous studies in recent years questioned the positive correlation between redundancy and stability. METHODOLOGY We explored the relationship between the species redundancy, functional redundancy and community stability in typical steppe grassland in Northern...

Heterogeneity in ecological mutualistic networks dominantly determines community stability

Although the hypothesis that nestedness determines mutualistic ecosystem dynamics is accepted in general, results of some recent data analyses and theoretical studies have begun to cast doubt on the impact of nestedness on ecosystem stability. However, definite conclusions have not yet been reached because previous studies are mainly based on numerical simulations. Therefore, we reveal a mathem...

Species traits are associated with the quality of bioclimatic models

Aim To analyse the effects of nine species trait variables on the accuracy of bioclimatic envelope models built for 98 butterfly species. Location Finland, northern Europe. Methods Data from a national butterfly atlas monitoring scheme (NAFI) collected from 1991–2003 with a resolution of 10 × 10 km were used in the analyses. Generalized additive models (GAMs) were constructed for 98 butterfly s...

Species Richness, Evenness and Plant Community Stability 22 Years after Ploughing a Semiarid Rangeland

Rangeland ploughing and cultivation using dry land farming crops may be amajor reason for the destruction of natural resources in the semiarid and sub-humid regionswhich may significantly change the composition and reduce the stability of the affectedcommunities. In present research, an abandoned ploughed site was compared with a nearbyreference site in the semiarid rangelands of Baharkish, Quc...

Bioclimatic regions influence genetic structure of four Jordanian Stipa species.

Strong environmental gradients can affect the genetic structure of plant populations, but little is known as to whether closely related species respond similarly or idiosyncratically to ecogeographic variation. We analysed the extent to which gradients in temperature and rainfall shape the genetic structure of four Stipa species in four bioclimatic regions in Jordan. Genetic diversity, differen...
